It’s the Final Countdown!

1 Apr

So the plan laid out at the beginning of March was a little different than how we actually spent our time, but no matter how you look at it, we are making progress! It’s looking more and more likely that we’ll make our unofficial goal of completing the trim by the end of April! Ok, almost completing because we will not be finishing the trim in our bedroom (in addition to the 3 bathrooms that we plan to re-tile at some point, but they were never part of the “goal”). That is because our bedroom currently looks like this:

Yes, it is filled with beds, futons, dressers, etc, etc from the other 3 rooms. You see, we needed to move the stuff away from the wall to install the trim. Now we could have moved everything to the center of the room, but we also planned to remove the old carpet before we painted the new trim (and then get new carpet installed shortly after) so we thought it easiest to just move as much of the big stuff out now that we could. Our room is the only space upstairs that is not getting new carpet and we don’t have a lot of furniture in there to begin with so it had plenty of room to house some temporary guests. Big thanks to Eric for swinging by this weekend to do some heavy lifting! It freed me up to putty some nail holes. Yippee!! (hope you sense the sarcasm)

Last weekend I did quite a bit of cleaning, but also puttied the baseboards in the dining room, hallway, and kitchen while Mike installed the upstairs stuff. This weekend, I sanded the stuff from last week (and re-puttied some stuff that needed a bit more hole-filler) and puttied the pantry and 3 bedrooms! Here are some before and after pictures of the bedrooms to enjoy.

And some more afters:

Yeah, we only took the big stuff out of the rooms... still a bunch of other stuff that will need to come out at some point!

Isn't that carpet looking ready to be replaced?!?

It’s amazing how much more finished these rooms look with the trim up! After living without it for 2 years, you sort of forget how much you miss it!

Anyways, here’s our weekend breakdown to make this do a done:

  • April 7-8: Off weekend to celebrate Easter/Birthday’s with family
  • April 14-15: Tape, caulk, paint the downstairs baseboards and start removing the carpet upstairs AND most importantly, celebrate Joe’s 1st birthday!
  • April 21-22: Finish removing the carpet upstairs and sand the upstairs trim
  • April 28-29: Tape, caulk, paint the upstairs trim AND hopefully celebrate the end of the never-ending longest project

With all the progress we’ve been making, our other projects took a back seat. We are still looking for 1-2 pieces for the gallery wall, but could fill those spaces in after things are hung. Our return air vent was thisclose to being done, but had a little mishap that caused a number of the slats to detach from the frame. Enter Mike’s sad face here. So we decided to take it a step further than wood glue and borrow a pin nailer from a friend (Thank’s Josh!). Perhaps we’ll find some time in April to hang our gallery wall and finish our return air vent…
