The Inbetween

18 Nov

Although the blog stopped for a 2 year hiatus, the house projects didn’t end. I’d like to take this opportunity to check in on our 2013 To Do List (the last one we publicly shared) before we make some house goals for the next year (2016).

Our last updated list looked like this

  • Build in washer/dryer- Laundry room side
  • Build mudroom lockers – Mudroom side
  • Organize the pantry
  • Finish the baseboards (this includes: the master bedroom/closet, the laundry room, the pantry)
  • Re-tile the main floor powder room
  • Insulate the garage
  • Fix garage vent
  • Update/repair porch
  • Install paver walkway (and maybe a small patio in the backyard…)
  • Landscape
  • Replace our mailbox before it falls off the stand
  • Paint exterior portion of windows and doors- and other odds and ends painting touch-ups
  • Build office bookcase built-ins

My we were ambitious in 2013! Almost 3 years later we still wouldn’t have everything crossed off that list! Haha. We did check a few more things off that list though so let’s talk about the successes!

First off, the porch is COMPLETED! Hooray! We’ve loved sitting out on the porch having dinner or relaxing in our rockers reading a book. It’s been an amazing space and we’ve definitely been enjoying it. Let’s look at a few before and afters, shall we?

The paver walkway was also exciting to see completed. This one we ended up hiring out and it looks fantastic!

Is landscaping every really done? We started to get some stuff planted this past summer though, including my must have hydrangeas as you can see in the above photos! I loved walking up our beautiful paver path to my cute little porch surrounded by hydrangeas. I did not love having to weed the other bed of flowers we planted along the garage (no photos yet…). Fortunately my mom and dad were all too kind to help out with this duty (Thanks mom and dad!)

There have been a lot of painting touch-ups going on, too. Most exciting to share is the hallway stripes. The prep was time consuming, but in reality it was much easier than I anticipated. If only I would’ve known, it could’ve been done with this awhile ago!

I won’t share the rest of our painting touch ups – they are much less exciting!

Probably the most fun project to date has been our home office makeover. We created some pretty nice built-ins. The added storage has been phenomenal (and makes me wonder, why 2 people need so much storage?!) We also love the extra large desk and work space we made on the flip side of the room. I can’t wait to see our kiddos sitting there working on their homework or creating a birthday card for grandma!

So if we could update our 2013 To Do List now, it’d look something like this:

  • Build in washer/dryer- Laundry room side
  • Build mudroom lockers – Mudroom side
  • Organize the pantry
  • Finish the baseboards (this includes: the master bedroom/closet, the laundry room, the pantry)
  • Re-tile the main floor powder room
  • Insulate the garage
  • Fix garage vent
  • Update/repair porch
  • Install paver walkway (and maybe a small patio in the backyard…)
  • Landscape
  • Replace our mailbox before it falls off the stand
  • Paint exterior portion of windows and doors- and other odds and ends painting touch-ups
  • Build office bookcase built-ins

I chuckle looking at that – we are STILL working on finishing the baseboards. It is truly the never-ending project. But we are getting closer to crossing a few more rooms off that list. Our next big project now is to update 2 of our 3 bathrooms. We are getting tired of stubbing our toes on the uneven tile floor and are looking forward to cranking this project out this winter. But more on that later. I’ll be back before the year is over with an updated house tour and a list of 2016 house goals. Can’t wait to see what we accomplish this next year!
